Desintegration #5, Mixed media on paper, 78.7 x 59.1 inches

Alexandre Farto, better known as Vhils, is a Portugese street artist who turns decrepit urban landscapes into crumbling canvases. He carves detailed portraits onto the walls of city ruins, exposing the fragility of the urban environment and the beauty of its disrepair. Eschewing paint for chisels, a jackhammer, drills, etching acid and explosives, Vhils creates unsual street art murals that expose the many layers of the urban facade, layers not that different from those of human beings.
