Nick Georgiou: PAPER MUSEUM

22 May 2025 - 17 Jun 2025
PAPER MUSEUM is Nick Georgiou’s fifth solo exhibition at Allouche Gallery, featuring a new body of work that continues his exploration of text-based sculpture. Known for his innovative use of discarded printed materials, Georgiou reimagines books and papers as sculptural reliefs, pushing the boundaries of what this increasingly obsolete medium can become.

The exhibition presents a dozen reinterpretations of historical artworks by artists including Willem de Kooning, Hilma af Klint, Keith Haring, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso. Each piece is carefully crafted from reclaimed texts—dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, novels, journals, and anthologies—highlighting Georgiou’s interest in both visual transformation and sustainable practices.
Georgiou draws an eloquent parallel between the brushstroke and the printed page, demonstrating how each builds meaning through the accumulation of layered, tactile elements—whether of ink, language, paint, or form. His work invites viewers to see familiar imagery through the lens of accumulated paper fragments, where repetition and variation give rise to new narratives.
At the heart of PAPER MUSEUM is a deep respect for the material itself. The artist’s fascination extends beyond the celebrated images to the materials themselves—the once-cherished texts marked by smudged fingerprints, fading marginalia, and the quiet evidence of human presence. These artifacts, worn and weathered by time, embody the invisible threads that connect generations of readers. Through them, Georgiou honors the stories embedded in every page, revealing how the past continues to shape and speak through the materials we leave behind.
