Frank Coffie explores the idea of belonging through his representation of bodies in fleeting, almost dream-like woven spaces. Coffie finds inspiration in his personal life and relations, focusing on moments of conflict or sadness. He uses oil and yarn to re-frame these moments of defeat into moments of rebirth, suggesting newness, opportunity…a moment to reflect on the good. With oil backgrounds referential to French Impressionism and the classics, Coffie brings a contrasting modern three dimensionality to his figures, highlighting movement with woven yarn, active in color, texture and tension that articulates inspiration.
