Hajime Sorayama paints eroticized women, amplified and sexualized to the point of being inhuman. In an age obsessed with airbrushing and photoshopping, the Japanese artist ups the ante, crafting hyperrealistic depictions of hybrid creatures part woman, part robot, taking the notion of perfection to its futuristic extreme. Somewhere between the glamour of Hollywood, the temptation of “Penthouse” and the giddy lasciviousness of traditional Japanese Shunga, Sorayama pokes fun at contemporary understandings of beauty and sex while indulging in them unapologetically.
