Allouche Gallery is pleased to present Uncanny, an exhibition of new and recent works by Tigran Tsitoghdzyan. In this collection, Tsitoghdzyan’s black and white portraits propel the viewer past the fact or fiction hyperrealistic paintings often portray. Rather, his works take it a step further, offering up fantasy instead. His large scale paintings of women’s faces hidden by the subjects’ hands, implore the viewer to question who exactly the portraits are of: the subject, the artist, or something in between? The surrealist style of the work lands somewhere between Andre Breton and airbrushed magazine editorials, uncovering the images’ dichotomy of the hidden and revealed, truth and deception and document and dream.
